Iraq is operationally divided into 3 areas, but defacto there are 4: West Iraq, South Iraq, North Iraq, and Baghdad.

Note on National Guard Infantry Battalions

  • 1/124th Infantry [Ar Ramadi, Globalsecurity.org says Baghdad]
  • 2/124th Infantry, elements attached to 3/124, with 1st ArmdDiv, Baghdad; entered Iraq in March 2003; HQ & HQ Co went to Afghanistan as part of TF Afghan National Army and was not deployed to West Asia
  • 3/124th Infantry, Baghdad [were to return Florida August, now rumored date is November]
  • 1/179th Infantry [AA] returning July-August, [45th Bde, National Guard] this is first identification we have for this unit in Iraq
  • 1/162nd Infantry [AA] in Iraq; 2/162nd Infantry [AA] to deploy [41st Bde, National Guard]
  • 1/152nd Infantry [last identified supporting 4th MechDiv N of Baghdad, end July 2003]

[Note: 1/124, 2/124, 3/124 all belong to Florida's 53rd Infantry Brigade; though the battalions are organized as AA units, they are not trained for air assault and do not have the qualified soldiers for the role]
