Task Force Rakkasan was at maximum strength in April of 2002. 10th Mountain Division troops were the first to rotate home. By the end of May troops of the 101st troops had also begun rotation, to be relieved in place by Task Force Panther (3rd BCT, 82nd Airborne Div). June 2002 saw a change of command as Col. Mike Linnington took over from Col. Frank Wiercinski.
